Connections Among Generations Project

Acts of Kindness

“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” Dalai Lama

Community Development Halton received a New Horizons Grant in March 2021 to initiate Connections Among Generations, a Halton Region based outreach project directed towards older adults, many of whom live alone, who are at a greater risk of becoming socially isolated, lonely, and may be experiencing financial hardships due to limited income. Due to COVID-19, we know that many older adults are facing challenging times and may be experiencing a loss of social connections with friends and family. As a caring community, we are able to offer words of hope, kindness and encouragement.

We are seeking to engage volunteers of all ages, including students, families, and older adults to contribute messages of kindness, caring and hope, which will be collected and distributed in Halton region, to over 800 older adults every month.

Messages can be included in letters, cards, poetry, and artwork/crafts are always appreciated! Older adults also appreciate crossword puzzles and word searches. Helpful hints, tips and guidelines will be provided to each volunteer to write letters and messages of kindness.

Ontario Heroes volunteers are whole heartedly supporting this great initiative of Community Development Halton and looking for more volunteers to support this project . This is a great opportunity for us to show our love and compassion to our older generations and to put a smile on their face. Volunteer service certificates will be issued to individuals and high schools students upon request.

If you are interested in volunteering and giving back to the community, please sign up the volunteer application form. This program is open to all, and any one can participate from any region in Canada, virtually without a time commitment. You will receive instructions once you register!

Letters can be emailed directly to [email protected] and also, arrangements can be made to pick up letters through one of our volunteers or you can drop off at Community Development Halton in Burlington or Ontario Heroes office in Mississauga.
