Apply for Ontario Heroes Mentorship Program

We are committed to building an inclusive work environment and believe diversity is essential to a successful workforce. Everyone needs to feel valued, heard and respected.

It takes courage and perseverance to immigrate to a new country, and we understand that being in a new place comes with its own challenges. That’s why we are here to help you take the next step along your journey. If you are facing challenges in finding work in your profession, our program can provide you with a mentor in your field who will work with you to meet your goals and grow your career.

The New Immigrant mentorship program is focused on our dedication and unwavering responsibility to equity and inclusion in Ontario. We gratefully acknowledge the support of Catholic Cross-Cultural Services, NETS Staffing solutions, Caring Hands 4U, Care Canada and Express Employment Ottawa West, Consumer staffing solutions and We Care 4U as key partners in our newcomer immigrant support activities.

This program pairs internationally trained professionals with local professionals, and creates a space for both people to grow their skills, enhance their careers and provide an opportunity to expand their knowledge.

Program Requirements

Participants need to meet all of the following requirements:

  • Demonstrate English-language skills suitable for employment
  • Be a landed immigrant, permanent resident, or convention refugee
  • Hold a post-secondary qualification
  • Be ready and able to work
  • Be willing to meet with your mentor on a regular basis

*At this time we are not able to accept full-time students into our program.

Please Note: The mentor’s role is to help their mentees expand their local networks and better understand their field of expertise within a Canadian context. Mentees should not expect their mentors to find them a job.

For help finding a job, Ontario Heroes provides its local career portal as a tool for helping newcomers seek work in Ontario.

What is the process?

Our approach to mentorship focuses on the individual goals of both mentors and mentees. We connect individuals based on matching career paths and educational backgrounds. This allows our mentors who have experience and knowledge in their specific industry, to support mentees to understand the local opportunities in their field.

Are you eager to start?

Let us know if you are a High School Student, Newcomer, International student or an internationally trained professional looking for guidance in your career as a mentee.
